Baker & Taylor Foundation Announces Two Scholarship Winners
—Two $3,000 Scholarships Awarded —

CHARLOTTE, N.C., September 18, 2018 — The Baker & Taylor Foundation and Baker & Taylor, a premier worldwide distributor of digital and print books and entertainment products, announced the winners of the 2018 Jean Srnecz Memorial Scholarship.

In 2009, The Baker & Taylor Foundation established an annual college scholarship in honor of former colleague, Jean Srnecz, to support the higher education of Baker & Taylor team members' children. This year, Baker & Taylor is pleased to announce they awarded two college scholarships.

The recipients, Christopher Lipford and Brian Oo, each received a $3,000 scholarship. These are the 16th and 17th Jean Srnecz Scholarships given to date.

"In awarding these scholarships, we're reminded of Jean. Her spirit and enthusiasm was rooted in a deep love of learning and sharing knowledge," said David Cully, President of Baker & Taylor. "She knew the power of education. Both Christopher and Brian are worthy winners and she would admire their ambition and desire to achieve their goals."

Christopher Lipford is the son of Sean Lipford, a regional account manager at Baker & Taylor. Christopher plans to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas. Even as a child, Christopher loved building with Legos and solving puzzles. As he got older, he realized he had a true passion for understanding and refining processes. "As I got closer to graduation, the decision of civil engineering just seemed to suit me," Christopher explained in his application. He also plans to minor in Spanish, noting the importance of being bilingual in today's business world.

Brian Oo is the son of Tin Tin Oo who works in the ordering picking department at the Bridgewater, NJ Service Center. Brian began his computer engineering studies at the University of Michigan this fall. Brian has always been interested in technology, feeling drawn to it even as a young student. He noted, "I share the same interest in technology as those who pave the way for new amazing inventions and innovations to seam themselves into our daily lives."

Jean Srnecz was on Continental Flight 3407, which crashed Feb. 12, 2009 outside Buffalo, N.Y. Jean was highly regarded within the publishing industry, not to mention very dear to Baker & Taylor. The Baker & Taylor Foundation, a nonprofit organization led by Baker & Taylor, established a college scholarship in Jean's name to annually support the education of a child of a Baker & Taylor team member.

Congratulations to our two 2018 Jean Srnecz Memorial Scholarship recipients!
