CHARLOTTE, N.C., February 21, 2019 - Today Baker & Taylor and the Black Caucus of the American Librarian Association (BCALA) announced the creation of a new BCALA Support Award. This award, sponsored by Baker & Taylor, recognizes dedicated and outstanding performance by a library support staff member. An award of $1,000 and commemorative plaque will be awarded during BCALA membership meeting at the 2019 ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
The Black Caucus of the American Library Association serves as an advocate for the development, promotion, and improvement of library services and resources to the nation's African American community; and provides leadership for the recruitment and professional development of African American librarians.
"We are honored to again partner with the BCALA and support this inaugural award," explained Aman Kochar, EVP of Public Library Sales and Technology at Baker & Taylor. "Support staff help our nation's libraries run and serve millions of community members annually. To be able to honor their work and further the mission of the BCALA is important to us."
"BCALA is pleased to be able to offer library support staff an opportunity to learn about the organization and to be rewarded for their creativity, knowledge and service," noted BCALA president Richard E. Ashby, Jr.
To nominate someone for the BCALA Support Award, please find instructions on the BCALA homepage, https://www.bcala.org/.
