Baker & Taylor Foundation Announces Two Scholarship Winners
- Two employees' daughters each receive $3,000 award this year -

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - July 23, 2012 - The Baker & Taylor Foundation and Baker & Taylor Inc., the world's largest distributor of physical and digital books and entertainment products, today announced the winners of the 2012 Jean Srnecz Memorial Scholarship.

In 2009, The Baker & Taylor Foundation established an annual college scholarship in honor of our former colleague Jean Srnecz, to support the higher education of Baker & Taylor employees' children. This year, we are pleased to announce we are awarding two college scholarships.

Caitlin Brianna Parker, who will be entering Appalachian State University as a freshman this fall and Ashley Lauren Anderson, who will be entering Brigham Young University as a freshman this fall each received a $3,000 scholarship. This will be the 4th and 5th Jean Srnecz Scholarships given to date.

"We are excited and proud to honor Jean by awarding two scholarships this year to very worthy recipients," said CEO Tom Morgan. "These individuals are very motivated to make a positive contribution in their respective fields, and we are delighted to help make that happen."

Caitlin is the daughter of Troy Parker, a Brand Manager in the corporate office in Charlotte, NC. Caitlin graduated in June, from South Point High School in Belmont, NC with a grade point average of 4.17. Caitlin plans on studying Nutrition and Dietetics at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.

Caitlin says, "I hope to help people gain control of their health, specifically those with eating disorders. My goal is to teach others about how food and exercise can give them the long, healthy and fulfilling lives they deserve. I want to help others succeed in changing themselves, and improving their self-image."

Ashley is the daughter of Jan Anderson, EBIS Sales Manager in Utah. Ashley graduated with a GPA of 3.97 and was in the top 9% of her class of more than 400 students at Timpanogos High School in Orem, Utah. Ashley will attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah this fall and plans on studying Anthropology.

"I believe that studying the lives of those in the past - whether distant or recent - is a key to understanding our present situation, and also to bettering our future," said Ashley. "I am excited to be a part of recovering past knowledge and good effort will go unrewarded, and I intend to make a great many efforts in my studies and profession."

Jean Srnecz was on Continental Flight 3407, which crashed Feb. 12, 2009 outside Buffalo, N.Y. Jean was highly regarded within the publishing industry, not to mention very dear to Baker & Taylor. The Baker & Taylor Foundation, a non-profit organization led by Baker & Taylor, established a college scholarship in Jean's name to annually support the education of a child of a Baker & Taylor employee.

Congratulations to our two 2012 Jean Srnecz Memorial Scholarship recipients!
