CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Feb. 3, 2011 - The Baker & Taylor Foundation and Baker & Taylor Inc., the world's largest distributor of physical and digital books and entertainment products, today announced the winner of the 2011 Jean Srnecz Memorial Scholarship.

Haiden Nunn, who will attend either University of Georgia or Young Harris College in Young Harris, Ga., won the $3,000 scholarship and is the second winner of the award to date. The award - for which college children of Baker & Taylor employees are eligible - honors Jean Srnecz, Senior Vice President of Merchandising for Baker & Taylor, who died tragically in February 2009.

Haiden Nunn's father, Timothy Nunn, is the facility manager at Baker & Taylor's Commerce, Ga. distribution and service center. Haiden has her sights set on becoming a specialist in reconstructive surgery and aiding those who are born with deformities. The Baker & Taylor Foundation manages the Jean Srnecz Memorial Scholarship Fund.

"I want them to have a chance at a normal life, because everyone deserves that chance," the winner wrote in her application essay. "I want to see them smile without being self-conscious, and I want them to love life."

Tom Morgan, CEO of Baker & Taylor said, "We are pleased to honor Jean and keep her memory alive by recognizing, encouraging and rewarding young people who are as passionate about books and learning as she was."

And Marilyn Marzolf, sister of Jean Srnecz and member of the Scholarship Selection Committee added, "The Jean Srnecz Scholarship extends her legacy to others who will learn that she stood for intelligence, honesty and fairness - qualities that make her an excellent role model."

Jean Srnecz was on Continental Flight 3407, which crashed Feb. 12, 2009 outside Buffalo, N.Y. Jean was highly regarded within the publishing industry, not to mention very dear to Baker & Taylor. The Baker & Taylor Foundation, a non-profit organization led by Baker & Taylor, established a college scholarship in Jean's name to annually support the education of a child of a Baker & Taylor employee.
