?Two $3,000 Scholarships Awarded ?
CHARLOTTE, N.C., September 7, 2016 ?The Baker & Taylor Foundation and Baker & Taylor, the premier worldwide distributor of digital and print books and entertainment products, announced the winners of the 2016 Jean Srnecz Memorial Scholarship.
In 2009, The Baker & Taylor Foundation established an annual college scholarship in honor of former colleague, Jean Srnecz, to support the higher education of Baker & Taylor employees' children. This year, Baker & Taylor is pleased to announce they awarded two college scholarships.
The recipients, Erin Anderson and Brooke Gravitt, each received a $3,000 scholarship. These are the 12th and 13th Jean Srnecz Scholarships given to date.
"Each year it is wonderful to pause and remember Jean by recognizing the children of Baker & Taylor employees who have a desire to learn and grow," said George Coe, Group President of Baker & Taylor/Follett School Solutions. "Our winners this year represent a spirit and commitment Jean would have admired and we are pleased to award these scholarships to Erin and Brooke."
Erin Anderson is the daughter of Jan Anderson, a Field Sales Manager. Erin plans to pursue a degree in Nursing or Sports Medicine from Brigham Young University in the fall. Throughout high school, Erin was a competitive cross-country runner. An injury sustained her junior year piqued in her interest in health and medicine. "I developed greater empathy for injured athletes; gratitude for health; and awareness in exemplifying team spirit," noted Erin.
Brooke Gravitt is the daughter of Tracy Gravitt, training manager, in Commerce, Ga. She plans to study nursing in the fall at the University of North Georgia. She decided nursing was the career for her after participating in a work study program in a local Emergency Room during high school. Brooke explained, "as a nurse I believe that even during those bad times it will be rewarding just knowing I did everything I could to make someone comfortable during their illness."
Jean Srnecz was on Continental Flight 3407, which crashed Feb. 12, 2009 outside Buffalo, N.Y. Jean was highly regarded within the publishing industry, not to mention very dear to Baker & Taylor. The Baker & Taylor Foundation, a nonprofit organization led by Baker & Taylor, established a college scholarship in Jean's name to annually support the education of a child of a Baker & Taylor employee.
Congratulations to our two 2016 Jean Srnecz Memorial Scholarship recipients!
